About the catalog

The Book Matrix started as a personal shelf of index cards and grew into a public catalog. Every entry follows the same rule: read the whole book, write the honest version of the review, no exceptions for hype or publisher pressure.

What we do

We review fiction, science fiction, fantasy, mystery, non-fiction, classics, poetry, and graphic novels — one book at a time, with a rating, a plain-language verdict, and enough detail that you can decide for yourself whether it's the right next read.

How we rate

Every review carries a rating out of five, alongside a short written verdict. We weigh craft, pacing, and whether a book does what it sets out to do — not just whether we personally enjoyed it. A five-star book isn't necessarily our favorite; it's a book that succeeds completely on its own terms.

What we don't do

  • No sponsored reviews. We don't accept payment in exchange for coverage or rating.
  • No spoilers in the opening section of a review — major plot points are flagged before they appear.
  • No score inflation. If a well-known book doesn't work for us, the review says so.
